31 days:: #1 reason~No reason at all!

WOW! It’s already day 6 of Meals for Sharing.  If you missed what 31 days is all about, back up a few days to this post, and catch up with me.

GREAT! Now that you are all caught up I would like to share with you one of my favorite reasons to share a meal with someone.  The reason is NO REASON AT ALL!  No new baby, no sickness, no loss.  Just because! Most of the time when I share food for no reason at all, it’s not a whole meal,  maybe it’s just a pie, or some scones.

Recently I was making my Spaghetti Sauce and I went a little over board.  I got a little excessive.  I had enough for three families!  And my family is not great at eating leftovers, so that was out of the question.  BAM! (that was the sound of an idea hitting me across the noggin) My Pastor and his family popped into my head.  So because I’m a nut, and didn’t want to make him feel obligated, or put him on the spot by calling him at 2 in the afternoon and say “hey whatcha doin for dinner tonight?  Cause I’ve got extra food I’d like to bring you.”  I texted him and his wife.  (I know I’m a wussy.)  Within 5 minutes I had a text back “That would be awesome, I’ve been at the hospital all day.”  Then one from his wife. “YES!”

What I didn’t know was that my Pastors mother had fallen and he had been at the hospital all day with her.   What I had forgotten was that they had been painting the outside of their house by themselves!  And his wife had gone back to work, because she’s a teacher.  And to top it off it was Fall kick off at church!  Yikes, I am so glad I didn’t hesitate to ask them.

The meal wasn’t anything fancy.  Just a container full of Spaghetti Sauce, a box of noodles and a loaf of bread I had picked up at the grocery store, and well a pie. It completely took the pressure off Susan and let her drive home from work relaxed knowing she didn’t have to worry about what to feed her family.

I was so anxious about asking them, at such short notice.  But after I got my guts up and did it,  I learned that is was just what they needed.  See….my anxiety could have robbed me and another family of a blessing! That would have been a humongous Bummer…with a capitol B!

I hope you do not think I am trying to toot my horn in anyway shape or form.  Oh goodness no!  I am such a schlepp, you really have no idea.  I just want to give you examples of ways that sharing a meal can bless everyone involved.  It’s a win win situation!

You must also understand cooking is a passion of mine.  I love to cook, and bake, and sharing it with others makes it even more enjoyable for me.  I realize that for many of you being in your kitchen is a drag, it’s just not your thing and then to top it off actually bringing someone a meal would just push you over the edge.  Please stick with me, I realize I am not going to change you into me, but I hope that this 31 days of Meals for Sharing will at encourage you to step out of your comfort zone and bless others with the gift of food!

If you would like the recipe for my Spaghetti Sauce you can find it here.

Another meal I love to share with others is Mostaccioli. It can be made with the spaghetti sauce recipe.

There you go the first of fifteen reasons to share a meal with somebody!

Have you ever shared food with someone for no reason?  Just popped in with a pie or a carton of spaghetti?

Stay tuned for the next and probably the most widely practiced reason for taking a meal to someone.  Can you guess what it is?

Blessings,
Sheila

  1. I find those are the best times to share a meal and blesses those more than when it is all planned out. God has often brought the people who need it most that day to mind =)

  2. This one is probably the biggest roadblock of all….don’t you think? When I take a meal to someone I like to have a cute container and napkins and all that. Well, I am a full time teacher and honestly, I just can’t do all that. However, the cutest teacher at my school just had twins. The girl needs food…now and for awhile. Thanks for the push. 🙂

  3. In my old neighborhood, my neighbors were often the recipient of my overage. I haven’t gotten to know and be comfortable enough with the new neighbors to just drop stuff off. I need to get better at that.

However, my office often benefits. To the point where they set up a jar for me so they could help pay for my baking ingredients.

  4. I love your series this month! I love to share the gift of food and look for any excuse to share, and has you stated today, the best reason is no reason at all. I have surprised a few friends with a phone call and tales of too much food. Thanks for doing this, I am enjoying it!!
