Hawaiian Burgers
This post is under construction, new photos to come.
Grilled sweet onion on top of a delicious juicy hamburger with a ring of pineapple grilled into it. All this is topped with a honey wasabi mayo that will knock your socks off.
Now if you have a griddle, or a fry pan will work too, grill your buns; or you could also stick them under the broiler…but don’t get distracted. I have burned a whole bakery full of bread in my lifetime forgetting it under the broiler.
Now your grill is nice and hot, go throw your burgers on the fire. But YOU NEED TO put them on with the pineapple facing down first. DO NOT put them on as shown in the above picture. It will work, but not really.
You can grill your onion or put it on your burger raw. What ever floats your boat. My boat floats with my onions grilled.
Hawaiian Burgers
Ingredients
- 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
- 2 tbsp Teriyaki Sauce
- 1/2 cup finely minced onion
- 1 tbsp beef bouillon
- salt and pepper to taste
- 8 ounces pineapple slices drained, and juice reserved
- 6 whole hamburger buns
toppings:lettuce, grilled or raw onion slices, condiments, Wasabi Mayo (recipe to follow), smoked provolone cheese slices
wasabi mayo
- 1/3 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tbsp wasabi paste
- 1 tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
Instructions
- Combine hamburger meat with teriyaki sauce, minced onion, beef bouillon and salt and pepper to taste. Go light on the salt because bouillon can be salty.
- Divide meat up into 6 equal balls and press them into hamburger patties. Place pineapple slice on top of each patty and press it into the meat.
- Toast hamburger buns under the broiler. Or place them on the grill for a minute to get them toasted. You can also butter the buns and toast them on a grilled pan if you like.
- Slice thick slices of sweet onion, and brush with olive oil.
- Grill burgers to your liking. Grill onion slices along side burgers
- Just before removing burgers from grill add provolone cheese.
- Assemble burgers to your liking.
wasabi mayo
- Whisk mayonnaise, wasabi paste, honey, and soy sauce together in a small dish. Set aside to be used as a condiment for burgers.
Oh wow, how did I ever miss this post? These look fantastic, remind me of burgers we would order at our favorite joint in Oahu! I am totally making these next week, my stomach is growling already!
Karrie, So glad you enjoyed them as much as we do. What a great meal to send someone off to Hawaii with. FUN!
I made these last week when my husband's brother and his daughter and his sister and her friend were over. Hannah (my niece) was flying out the next morning to Hawaii to begin 6 months of ministry and I was searching for the perfect farewell dinner…when I remembered this recipe! They were AMAZING!!!! I have never had a more delicious burger!! I paired it with some baked fries made from sweet potatoes and regular potatoes and a yummy cabbage and bean salad!!
All I can say to this recipe is WOW! Will have to fix this one. I like your blog. Open to anyone to follow?
I added myself to follow your blog. You are more than welcome to visit mine and become a follower if you want to.
God Bless You ~Ron
