Why we love homemade buttermilk ranch dressing so much
For starters my family goes through ranch dressing like its water. They put it on salad, they dip their veggies in it. Cooked and uncooked. Pizza is dipped in ranch dressing. Chicken is always eaten with ranch and sometimes mixed with bbq sauce. We are, with the exception of my husband, all a bunch of sauce eaters. We are one saucy family let me tell ya!! So I just started making my own, because it honestly is easier and so much better. A another plus to making your own salad dressing is you can make what you need. I don’t know about you but I will often purchase a bottle of salad dressing only to find it months later lost and lonely and very much past is expiration date in the back of my refrigerator.

FAQs
- How long does homemade ranch dressing last? For starters keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator, also make with the freshest ingredients. Meaning don’t make with plain yogurt or sour cream that’s at the end of it’s shelf life. When you follow these guidelines can keep ranch dressing for up to two weeks.
- Can I double this recipe or cut in half easily? Yes, for sure. Make what you need, especially since it does not contain any preservatives like store-bought ranch you need to use it within 2 weeks. Make sure to put a piece of tape on the jar or container with the date it expires on it.
- Flavor Variations: You can spice this dressing up easily by adding a pinch of cayenne teaspoon cayenne powder. Or and a 1/4 cup of prepared bbq sauce for BBQ Ranch dressing.
- Herby Dressing: If you are growing fresh herbs, or have them on hand, I say use all the herbs. Fresh chives. Fresh parsley. Fresh dill. You can use up to 1/4 cup fresh chopped herbs in this homemade ranch dip. This is absolutely extraordinary drizzled over grilled vegetables.
- What if I don’t keep buttermilk on hand? You can make your own buttermilk, by taking a cup of milk and adding 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or 1 tablespoon plain white vinegar, this will give you a whole cup buttermilk, let this mixture set for a few minutes before using. Use more or less buttermilk depending on how thick you want your dressing to be, if you make it as it is in the recipe card below it will be on the thicker side.
This is what we eat with this perfect dip: buffalo wings, chicken tenders, plain ol’ chicken wings, pizza crust, fresh vegetables, french fries, potato chips! What would you add to this list?
