This bread is a mixture of butter, cheese, and spices all baked into a loaf of French bread, making for one of the amazing appetizer / side dishes! You better make two!
Slice French bread in 1" thick slices, almost all the way through but not quite, leaving the loaf still intact. On a 10x15 baking sheet set bread on aluminum foil. Foil should be big enough to wrap bread up in before placing in oven to bake.
Shred Gruyere cheese. Combine all the ingredients together in a medium sized mixing bowl using a spatula.
Scoop a tablespoon of spread in between slices of bread and spread as well as possible to cover between each slice. Any remaining cheese spread can be spread over the top of the loaf. f
Wrap the loaf up tight in aluminum foil and bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes. You can unwrap and put back in oven if you would like it to be toasty on the top.
